Where do we work?

We currently manage three forest conservation sites in Mauritius, totalling 153 hectares: Ebony Forest; Vallée De L’Est; and Montagne Longue. Ebony Forest is the only site open to the public.

Ebony Forest

Location: Chamarel, south-west Mauritius

Forest type: Semi-intermediate dry forest

Land status: Private

Area: 50 hectares

Date forest restoration started: 2006

Vallée De L’Est

Location: Near Anse Jonchée (between Ferney Valley and Kestrel Valley), south-east Mauritius

Forest type: Upland humid forest

Land status: State (in partnership with the Forestry Services) & Private

Area: 83 hectares

Date forest restoration started: 2004

Hectares weeded to date: 28

Number of plant planted: 153,000

Predator control grid: 36 hectares

Endemic birds:
• Mauritius Kestrel
• Echo Parakeet
• Mauritius Grey White-eye
• Mauritius Bulbul

Montagne Longue

Location: Montagne Longue, north Mauritius

Forest type: Dry forest

Land status: State (in partnership with the Forestry Services) & Private

Area: 20 hectares
